  2. first great work, Pantagruel  (1532). Two years later, Rabelais 
  3. released The Very Frightful Life of the Grand Gargantua , a story of 
  4. Pantagruel‚Äôs father. Both books, printed under the pseudonym of 
  5. Alcofribas Nasier, employ satirical humour and political insight. 
  6. Although condemned by French intellectuals at the Sorbonne, they 
  7. were great popular successes.
